Hello Brooklyn Swings Regulars and Newbee's,
First off... WE MISS YOU! Okay other than that, our classes and gatherings are all cancelled at this time with the common health in mind. Please keep active, reach out to people, remember the warmth and light that we will be coming back to.
We are looking to start virtual classes and a virtual gathering soon. Please join our email list for updates that will be coming out there and on our Facebook Group.
Consider donating to our 'Keep the Light on while I'm Gone' campaign so we can be here when you get back. Or supporting our Part-Time and Full-Time teachers: Akemi, Jenny, Miriam and Yurina for a private lesson. Feel free to reach out in anyway with ideas, suggestions, recommendations as we believe a conversation is better than silence.
Take care over there.
Always,
Jenny Sowden
Founder & Director of Brooklyn Swings

The Shim Sham: is a famous routine that is similar to a line dance that has roots that date back to the 1920's. We will be doing Frankie Manning's version which happens today randomly at social dances when the song 'T'aint What You Do' comes on and people 'know' to do the Shim Sham, join the club! It's also a great way to work on your dance and learn some classic moves. Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cUPYkJQ29s
Charleston & Jazz Vocabulary: Charleston is also a solo dance that is often done with people dancing next to each other forming a circle. Some partnered moves are also solo moves and vis versa we will cover some Charleston and through in some Jazz so you can jam in this circle. Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2y2TpgY4tw
Lindy Hop Footwork & Jazz Vocabulary: Let's really get the 6 & 8 count rhythms of Lindy Hop and some variety foot work. Many say if you can do it alone, then you are more likely to be able to do it with someone else. So let's work on our own dance.
Blues Moves: Blues dancing is a partnered dance and also a solo dance. It is common for people to also enjoy a song or so to themselves or even have like a dance-off to a fellow dancer near by playin with ideas like Riffin and Cuttin. In this series we will learn some solo Blues Moves and find our dance in them as we become musical.
